Retrospective & Recipe for January
Looking back on January and a new recipe your dog will love.
Spend a lot of time talking to your customers face-to-face. You'd be amazed at how many companies don't listen to their customers.
What do you do when you find out the product you're building will cost way more than you initially thought and take years to get to market?
Sure, you can give up on the product. Call it a lesson learned. That's the easy route.
What about just reducing the scope? That should reduce your costs. It's the slightly harder route.
Or, you could revisit and revise the problem you're trying to solve. That is the hard route, the rewarding route.
Why?
Because we solve problems with imperfect information. We build solutions based on the surface-level information.
Those solutions don't really scratch the customers itch, and are often bloated with features that add no value.
In January we took the hard route, and we got the rewards.
Spending Time With Customers
There are so many amazing dog bars in the Tampa area. Last weekend we visited two of them.
Two Shepherds Taproom was the first one we stopped in. I've been a longtime customers, bringing Bowie there for bubble parties for dogs (yes, it's a thing). We're looking forward to getting to talk to more pet owners next time we're there!
PetVOC team at Pups Pub
The owner of Pups Pub took the time to ask us about our mission and purpose a business. We're going to be setting up in the next few weeks there to chat with pet owners and hand out some pup cup treats.
Preparing the pup cups
What really stands out to me is how supporting other small business owners are. To create those relationships you have to convincing yourself you are not bothering someone when you ask for their help.
People generally want to help. Remember that.
Digital Feedback From Customers
Since we couldn't justify a cross-country roadtrip to talk to pet owners in every state we released a survey focusing on what they think of gut health.
So, please help us save on gas costs and take the survey.
The harsh judgement of Rosie awaits those who do not take the survey
What's Next in February?
Planning with IP lawyer on avenues for protecting the technology.
Working with a manufacturer to get the first version ready for customers to try out, and preparing for the most glamorous aspect of running a business--filing taxes!
